What Does The PADI Open Water Diver Course Involve?

The PADI Open Water Diver course is made up of 3 main components: Knowledge Development, Confined Water Dives and Open Water Dives but what does this mean?

Knowledge Development: This is where you learn about the theory of diving and there are two options for completing this component.

1. PADI E-Learning (recommended): PADI E-Learning allows you to study all of the Knowledge Development sessions online prior to coming to North Sulawesi. You can work at home, at your own pace and fit your studying around your existing schedule. When you arrive here at Murex you’ll just need three days to complete the in water components and you won’t have to spend time studying – instead you’ll be enjoying putting your theory in to practice and having fun!
2. Studying in Resort – It is possible to complete the Knowledge Development here at Murex. You’ll work through the PADI Student Manual (book) and Open Water Videos while you are here – there are Knowledge Review questions to answer at the end of each chapter in the book as well as quizzes and a final exam. If you opt to study here then the course will take 4 days to complete.

PADI elearning

PADI Elearning allows you to study the theory at home before coming to Murex

Confined Water Dives: These are training sessions in our beautiful, purpose built dive swimming pool. You’ll learn and practice the basic skills of diving as well as techniques to keep you safe and you’ll run though how to deal with a range of emergency situations should they occur. The sessions in the swimming pool are a lot of fun and give the opportunity to get familiar with the gear and techniques in a safe environment.

Open Water Course in Manado pool

The pool in Murex Manado is the perfect place for all confined water dives

Open Water Dives: This is what it’s all about – making your first dives in the ocean! The PADI Open Water Diver course includes 4 exciting ocean dives and with Murex you’ll make 2 dives right here on our Manado House Reef which we can enter by simply walking off our beach – this ensures that your first dives are easy and as stress free as possible. The highlight of the course is on the final day when we’ll take you to dive in the stunning clear waters around Bunaken Island in the famous Bunaken Marine Park. There’s the chance to see huge sea turtles, schooling fish, octopus, sea horses, colourful and vibrant reefs, tuna, barracuda and a range of marine life at these world class dive sites.
